I managed to splint and bandage it immediately, and my speed got back to normal a week before the fracture eventually disappeared. For the first 3 weeks I tried to stay in the same location and did as little as possible but ended up running out of food and almost starving. Fractures take longer than a week to fully heal. The external damage may heal sooner, but keep the effected part splinted (if possible) stay on top of the pain, rest/sleep as much as you can, and just hang in there.
